Civil Standby: The Somonauk Police Department will perform civil standby's (keep the peace), in situations such as when a landlord may be attempting to evict a tennant, an estranged husband or wife is attempting to collect their share of community property, or when a reposession agent is trying to take possession of a vehicle or other property. The department is there only to keep the peace, and, if necessary, to make an arrest if a criminal act arises between the involved parties. The mere presence of the department does in no way legitimize the lawfulness of the eviction of a tennant or the repossession of a vehicle or other property. If you require a civil standby, call the department at (815) 498-2351 to schedule an appointment. Civil standby's are done depending on staffing and officer availability. Civil standby's are limited to one-half (1/2) hour maximum. Anyone requiring a civil standby for longer than a one-half (1/2) hour time period will need to schedule the civil standby no less than five (5) days in advance and will be required to pay for the service up front at the current overtime rate of $29.25 per hour with a two (2) hour minimum. |

Extra
Patrols / Security Checks: The Somonauk Police Department provides extra patrols and security checks on commercial and residential properties. Property owners requesting an extra patrol or security check will be required to complete and submit a signed request. Property owners must understand that the department is not a private security entity, nor can the department guarantee that their property shall not be a victim of crime during their absence. By completing and signing a request, property owners also authorize and empower the department and its employees to enforce criminal remedies upon their property in their absence and, if deemed necessary, authorize entry into their property while this request is in effect. It is also the responsibility to of the property owner immediately notify the department upon return. |
