Press Release: 04/03/16 3:02 PM - Green Street at BNSF Railroad Crossing - Fatal Train vs. Vehicle Accident

On Sunday 03 April 2016 at approx. 3:02 PM, Somonauk Police and the Somonauk Fire Department responded to a report of an Amtrak train verses vehicle accident that occurred where N. Green Street crosses the BNSF tracks. With the assistance of the Amtrak Police and Detectives and Crash Specialist from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department, preliminary investigation shows that a 28 year old male from Sandwich who was driving north on Green Street drove around the gates and was struck by a westbound Amtrak that was traveling from Union Station to California. The driver, who's name is not being released at this time pending family notification was pronounced dead at the scene. None of the 273 passengers or crew on board the train were injured.






Press Release03/20/16 5:50 PM - J.R. Wood Elementary School - Criminal Trespass

On Sunday 20 March 2016 at approx. 5:50 PM, Somonauk Police responded to a report of four (4) juveniles on the roof of the J.R. Wood Elementary School located at 320 S. Maple Street. Upon arrival, police we able to locate the juveniles who were still on the roof of the school. Upon contact with the juveniles, they ran to the opposite side of the building and jumped off the roof. One (1) of the juveniles voluntarily came to the officer and the other three (3) juveniles fled and were located a short time later hiding behind vehicles at the Somonauk High School. All four (4) juveniles were taken into custody and transported to the Somonauk Police Department. The juveniles were issued Village Ordinance Tickets for Criminal Trespass and were released to their parents.






Press Release: 03/20/16 3:01 PM - S/B Somonauk Road S/o Prairie View Drive - No Valid Driver's License

On Sunday 20 March 2016 at approx. 3:01 PM, Somonauk Police stopped a vehicle for speeding 71 MPH in a 55 MPH speed zone.
Upon further investigation, it was learned that the driver, identified as Carlos Serrano Deniz, 51 years old of the 5500 Block of W. Wrightwood Avenue, Chicago, Illinois, did not possess a valid driver's license. Serrano Deniz was issued citations for Speeding 71 MPH in a 55 MPH speed zone and for No Valid Driver's License. Serrano Deniz posted bond and is due in court in Sandwich on Wednesday 20 April 2016 at 9:00 AM.






Press Release03/14/16 5:52 PM - E/B market Street W/O Gage Street - Driving While License Suspended

On Monday 14 March 2016 at approx. 5:52 PM, Somonauk Police stopped a vehicle for speeding 50 MPH in a 30 MPH speed zone.
Upon further investigation, it was learned that the driver, identified as Gustavo Diaz, 19 years old of the 200 Block of N. Liberty Street, Leland had a suspended Illinois Driver's License. Diaz was arrested and transported to the Sandwich Police Department for processing.
Diaz was charged with Speeding and Driving While Suspended, he posted bond and is due in court on 20 April 2016 at 9:00 Am in Sandwich.






Press Release: 03/13/16 10:53 AM W/B market Street at Gage Street - Driving While License Suspended

On Sunday 13 March 2016 at approx. 10:53 AM, Somonauk Police while on general patrol in the area of Market Street and Gage Street observed a vehicle and driver that were known to police. It was further known to the officer that the Illinois Driver's License of the driver, known to be Dillon M. Osborne, 20 years old of the 400 Block of W. Washington Street was currently Suspended. A traffic stop was conducted and Osborne was taken into custody without incident. Osborne was transported to the Sandwich Police Department for processing and later released on bond with a 20 April 2016 court date at 9:00 AM in Sandwich.






Press Release: 02/16/16 2:44 PM 2:44 PM - W/B LaSalle Street at Maple Street - Driving While License Suspended

On Tuesday 16 January 2016 at approx. 2:44 PM, Somonauk Police observed a vehicle being driven by Amie R. Harazmus, 31 years old of the 100 Block of Green Ridge Avenue, Earlville. It was known by the officer that Amie's Illinois Driver's License was currently suspended. Contact was made with Amie in the parking lot of the Somonauk Middle School and she was placed under arrest for Driving While License Suspended. Amie was transported to the Sandwich Police Department where she was placed through booking procedures and later released on bond with a court date of Wednesday 16 March 2016 at 9:00 AM in Sandwich.






Press Release: 02/07/16 5:10 AM - 400 Block E. LaSalle Street - Domestic Battery

On Sunday, February 7, 2016, Somonauk Police responded to the 400 block of E. LaSalle St. for a report of a domestic battery. During the investigation, it was learned that Jesus A. Quezada, 33 years of age, of the 800 block of W. South St. in Plano, had head-butted his girlfriend. Quezada was taken into custody and transported to the Sandwich Police Department for processing and was subsequently transported to the DeKalb County Jail in Sycamore. Quezada is charged with two counts of Domestic Battery. Quezada is being held at the DeKalb County Jail pending a bond hearing.






Press Release: 02/04/16 5:16 AM - LaSalle Street at Depot Street - Driving While License Suspended

On Thursday February 4, 2016 at approx. 5:16 AM, Somonauk Police stopped a white Ford F150 for Speeding and for Disobeying a Stop Sign in the area of LaSalle Street at Depot Street. Upon further investigation, it was learned that the driver, identified as Lelsie L. Collier, 41 years old of the 100 Block of Lincoln Avenue, Hinckley, Illinois had a Suspended driver's license. Collier was placed under arrest and was transported to the Sandwich Police Department where she was placed through booking procedures and later released on bond with a court date of March 23, 2016 at 9:00 AM in Ottawa.







Press Release: 02/01/16 5:30 PM - East Street at Market Street - In-State Warrant

On Monday February 1, 2016 at approx. 5:45 PM, Somonauk Police, while assisting a motorist with an out of control intoxicated passenger came into contact with a Jeremy H. Ulbricht, 25 years old of the 1500 Block of Elgin Avenue, Joliet, IL who was also a passenger of the vehicle. Ulbricht was found to have a warrant for his arrest out of DeKalb County, Illinois for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance. Ulbricht was taken into custody and was not able to post bond. Ulbricht was transported to the DeKalb County Jail in Sycamore.







Press Release: 01/29/16 2:07 AM - Casey's General Store - Aggravated Assault / Criminal Damage to Property / In-State Warrant

On Friday January 29, 2016 at approx. 2:07 AM, Somonauk Police responded to the Casey’s General Store, 900 E. Market Street for a report of a fight in progress. It was learned that Michael J. Klug, 23 years old of the 500 block of Woodlawn Ave, Aurora, IL and Salvador Leon, 25 years old of the 600 block of S. Lake Street, Aurora, IL started a verbal altercation with two other customers of the store. At some point, Klug threw a beer bottle at one of the other customers who ducked, and the bottle struck the glass door of the business causing it to shatter. The second customer chased Klug into the parking lot where Leon then threw a beer bottle at him. Klug and Leon fled east on U.S. Route 34 towards Sandwich and were located and detained a short time later by Sandwich Police. Both Klug and Leon were transported to the Sandwich Police Department for processing and were later released on bond with a court date of February 16, 2016 at 9:00 AM in Sycamore, IL.
